Champions for PRSSA 2008 Directory

The Champions for PRSSA (formerly the Friends of PRSSA) is an organization for current or retired professionals who seek to better students’ education in public relations. The members contribute funds on a yearly basis to support scholarship and award programs for students of PRSSA.

The annual membership fee of $50 is tax deductible, and is payable to the PRSA Foundation, noted Champions For PRSSA, 33 Maiden Lane 11th Floor, New York, NY 10038. Fees are used for national programs and incentives that could not otherwise be provided by PRSSA or its parent organization, The Public Relations Society of America. Champions stay up-to-date on students and their education through newsletters and FORUM, the PRSSA publication.

The Champions sponsor PRSSA's National Scholarship Program, awarding a minimum of $4,250 annually to outstanding students, and make annual grants of approximately $3,000 for PRSSA Chapters earning top honors for their programs, including community/university service, student-run firms, newsletters, outstanding PRSSA Chapter advisors and sponsoring PRSA chapters. Champion b j Altschul, APR, sponsors an annual internship award and an annual scholarship is named for the late Champion, Stephen D. Pisinski, APR, Fellow PRSA, Past President of PRSA. The awards are presented at the Awards Ceremony during the PRSSA National Conference.

Co-chaired by PRSSA Past President Kent Landers, PRSA Past Presidents Judith Bogart, APR, Fellow PRSA, and Betsy Plank, APR, Fellow PRSA, and former PRSSA Chapter Advisor, Gary McCormick, APR, the Champions supplement the dedicated work of PRSA and advisors to PRSSA. It has the enthusiastic support of PRSA and PRSSA leaders, who encourage strong and productive relationships between professionals and the next generation that will shape the future of public relations.


An Invitation for Professionals

Founded in 1981, the Champions For PRSSA, formerly called Friends of PRSSA, bring together those who have special, ongoing interests in PRSSA, its student members, and in public relations education. Its roster includes practitioners and educators, companies, agencies, other organizations and PRSA Chapters. Individuals who are not PRSA members are also welcomed, as well.

Fourteen people comprise the PRSSA National Committee. Each member plays an important role in guiding the Society in its growth and development. The National President, Immediate Past President, six Vice Presidents, the FORUM Editor and National Webmaster are the student component of the National Committee. They are counseled by a Professional Advisor, a Faculty Advisor, a PRSA Board Liaison and the PRSSA Director. The student members are elected at the National Assembly and serve a one-year term from June 1 to May 31 of the following year.
